Dai Bingguo Meets with Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura

On August 17, 2008, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo met in Zhongnanhai with visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura, who is here for the Beijing Olympic Games.

Dai thanked the Japanese government and people for their strong support for the Beijing Olympic Games and wished the Japanese athletes good results in the competitions.

Dai recalled the successful state visit to Japan by President Hu Jintao this May and urged both sides to make joint efforts to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and maintain the momentum of high-level visits. Dai also suggested that both sides enhance cooperation in energy saving and environmental protection and properly handle problems and differences to improve and build the sentiments between the two peoples and push forward strategic mutually-beneficial relations between the two countries.

Echoing Dai's opinions, Komura expressed Japan's willingness to work with China to this end.
