On October 28, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and gave a dinner in his honor at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Both sides exchanged views on China-Nigeria, China-Africa relations, the situation in Africa and other issues of common concern.

Obasanjo is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
