Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Romanian Foreign Minister Comanescu

2008/10/25

On October 25, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met at the Great Hall of the People with Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu, who is heading a delegation to the 7th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

Yang said China and Romania share a traditional friendship and the two peoples enjoy profound friendly relations. He expressed appreciation for Romania’s adherence to the one-China policy, its support of the Beijing Olympic Games and its strong support offered after the devastating earthquake hit China’s Sichuan province on May 12. Both sides will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year. Yang hoped that both sides will take this opportunity to inherit the past and usher in the future to push bilateral ties to a new level.

Comanescu hailed the current sound relations between the two countries as well as smooth cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade and culture. Romania attaches great importance to developing ties with China and, as an EU member, is ready to play its bridging role for EU-China relations and make active contributions to continuous development of EU-China ties.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
